18th Century Oak Side Chair with Painted Decoration
A most unusual oak carved and painted side chair dating from the 18th Century. Possibly Dutch, this fabulous antique oak chair is raised on twist turned legs, with traces of the original green paint, terminating in block feet. The square sectioned stretchers form a rectangular undercarriage. The seat is solid, beautifully grained and patinated oak. The chair back has angular finials, which retain the original paint, a dentil cresting rail and wonderfully carved and painted panel with stylised fish, fruit baskets and military figurehead set within a laurel wreath. The chair which has traditional peg joints, is in very good condition, it stands well and firmly with no wobbles. The colour and patina is excellent. This rare antique side chair is ready to make an important decorative statement in any home, whether traditional or modern in style.
