18th Century Bronze of Buddha & Muchalinda
An imposing 18th Century Thai bronze of Buddha seated on the curled tail of the serpent king, Muchalinda. This well modelled and beautifully patinated antique bronze sculpture depicts Buddha being protected during a storm by the serpent king Muchalinda whose seven heads rise to form a protective canopy over the deity. The sculpture stands well with no wobbles and the quality is very good. We think this sculpture has probably been set onto a stone plinth or pedestal, there is evidence of some historic repair to the rear of the base. This is not detrimental to the beauty of appeal of the sculpture, please refer to the photographs of this piece. This superb antique bronze sculpture would be an important addition to a collection or a striking decorative feature in any interior.
