19th Century French Giltwood Salon Sofa
A very high quality antique giltwood salon sofa with a beautifully shaped curved back. This 19th Century French sofa is raised on elegant tapered and fluted legs, the giltwood frame has fine beaded decoration and a lovely cresting rail of floral and scroll carving. The condition of the frame is good, being sound and stable. The rake of the back and overall comfort are excellent. The tapestry upholstery fabric can be described as "country house" or in this case French chateau! ie. worn but acceptable, there are no obvious blemishes to the fabric. However, the purchaser may prefer to re-cover in a fabric of their choice at an additional cost, which we would be happy to arrange. There is some wear to the gilding and a few minor chips and blemishes to the frame, as would be expected in an antique piece of furniture, but the overall look is good and this is a very striking and stylish antique sofa. This highly decorative sofa, typical of French salon seating in the 19th Century and would be an impressive addition to any interior.
