19th Century Fruitwood Extending Dining Table
A great French fruitwood country table with lots of character. The beautifully grained planked top with cleated ends has a rich colour and lovely patination. Supported by tapering legs, the table has two drawers, one either side and the extensions have cleated ends. The table seats 10 people comfortably and when extended will seat 14, making it ideal for both family use and entertaining. The condition is good and the table is sturdy and stands evenly. There is evidence of some historic woodworm, long dead but treated again for peace of mind. As with many French country tables of this period, the legs have been tipped, this is not easy to detect. There is some pitting and discolouration to a small area of one of the sliding extensions, these can be seen clearly in the photos, are not detrimental and are compatible with the age and use of the table. This 19th Century table is a lovely example of traditional French country furniture.
