An Exceptional Pair of Regency Painted Chairs
A most unusual pair of Regency japanned and painted elbow chairs with circular caned seats raised on turned and fluted legs. This pair of Regency armchairs are in the original paint. The floral hand painted cresting rail and lower rail enclose an elegant curved trellis and roundel back, the painting being repeated on other parts of the chairs. The pair of Regency chairs are in very good condition with no wobbles and the caning is in excellent order. There are areas of wear to the original painted decoration, as is to be expected, but this only adds to the originality and decorative beauty of this exceptional pair of early 19th Century armchairs. There is a pair of pale green swab cushions available with the chairs, however, although very usable they are not in pristine condition, and are merely offered with the chairs as a template for replacements if desired. These highly unusual and decorative pair of antique armchairs are a superb example of Regency elegance and would be an important addition to a traditional or period interior.
