Large Complete Clam Shell (Tridacna Gigas)
A superb early 20th century complete giant clam shell with a well defined shape and good colour. Giant clams, (Tridacna Gigas) inhabit the Pacific and Indian oceans and have a lifespan of over 100 years. The layers build up over the course of many years, making the shells very heavy and difficult to date precisely. This antique clam shell came from a private collection. It is in good condition and the two halves sit well together forming the complete shell. There are very minor nibbles to the edge, these are minor and do not detract from the decorative qualities of the shell. The inside of the shell is lovely and smooth and a good white colour. An interesting, unusual and decorative object.
