Victorian Japanned & Painted Embroidery Frame
An unusual and highly decorative Victorian japanned embroidery frame, beautifully painted with flowers, leaves and gilt scrolls. This 19th Century frame is in remarkably good condition, there is slight evidence of wear to the paint on the base and some indication of minor historic woodworm. This has been thoroughly treated for peace of mind. These imperfections are not easily visible and do not detract from this beautiful and unusual object. In the 19th Century when needlework was a major pastime for ladies, a fine frame of this quality and decorative standard would certainly been the property of a lady of substance. A rare survivor of a more gentle age.
